The golden anniversary of ASEAN-Australia relations provides an opportunity to review how the relationship is travelling. Following their summit in Melbourne last March, ASEAN and Australian Leaders issued a Vision Statement setting out their strategic vision for the next 50 years. It calls for open, inclusive and transparent rules-based regional architecture in the Indo-Pacific region, in which ASEAN is central.
But in an increasingly uncertain and contested geopolitical environment in our region, can these lofty ideals be brought to fruition? What advantages does ASEAN membership confer and is the Association still relevant? How will closer cooperation between ASEAN and Australia benefit security, stability and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific? Join us as three leading ASEAN Heads of Mission in Canberra, the High Commissioners of Malaysia, HE Ms Sharrina Abdullah, and Singapore, HE Mr Anil Kumar Nayar, and the Indonesian Ambassador, HE Dr Siswo Pramono, share their perspectives on ASEAN and ASEAN-Australia relations.
From 5:30pm we will be serving complimentary drinks and nibbles to in-house guests! This event is both in-person and on-line.
