Susan is the First Assistant Secretary, Pacific Division, Department of Defence. She provides strategic and policy direction for her department’s relationships in the Pacific and Timor Leste. She has responsibility for delivery of infrastructure, security and Defence Cooperation Programs in the region. Susan has worked in the Department of Defence since 2010. Previously, she was Director, International Strategy at the Australian Customs and Border Protection Service and served for a number of years in the Attorney-General’s Department. She headed the Pacific Immigration Directors Conference Secretariat (2002-04) in Suva, Fiji.
Joanne is the Managing Director of DT Global Asia-Pacific. She leads over 1,400 corporate and project staff, implementing projects across 30 countries. Previously, Joanne was responsible for DT Global Asia-Pacific’s program quality and development effectiveness. She also led on gender programs technical advice. Before Cardno, Joanne managed international development programs and policy in AusAID/DFAT for 15 years, including five years posted to Papua New Guinea managing law and justice and subnational governance programs and four years in Fiji with responsibility for the Fiji and Tuvalu bilateral programs and humanitarian response following Tropical Cyclone Winston.
Andrew is the Policy and Political Affairs Officer at the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Mission in Australia. He manages the ICRC’s engagement with the Australian Government including with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), parliamentarians and Department of Home Affairs. Prior to joining the ICRC Andrew worked for DFAT where he promoted Australia’s free trade agreements to Australian businesses.
Alicia is a Senior Economic Analyst with the Australian Government. She has over 18 years in domestic and international public policy making. Her experience includes the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, DFAT (including as a diplomat in New Delhi), as an international development consultant, and the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister, the Hon Julia Gillard MP. Alicia holds a PhD in Public Policy from the ANU.
Jennifer is an Expert Associate at the National Security College at ANU and an Adjunct Fellow in naval studies at the University of New South Wales, Canberra. She is regularly featured in Australian and international print, digital, radio and TV media. Jennifer served for more than 20 years with the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) where she specialised as a Principal Warfare Officer, including undertaking deep specialist training with the Royal Navy in Anti-Submarine Warfare. Her last RAN appointment was as Director of Operations in Bahrain of the Combined Maritime Forces, a 38-nation coalition promoting national security in the Middle East and Indian Ocean region.
