Associate Professor Dr. Minako Sakai is an expert on Islam, gender and international development studies with a focus on Indonesia and the Indo-Pacific region.
She is Deputy Head of School (Research) of Humanities and Social Sciences, at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) Canberra. Her latest book is 'Women Entrepreneurs and Business Empowerment in Muslim Countries' (co-authored with Amelia Fauzia, Palgrave MacMillan, 2022). She has co-edited 'Narratives of Muslim Womanhood and Women’s Agency' (Routledge), the 'Disaster Relief in the Asia Pacific' (Routledge), and the 'Politics of the Periphery in Indonesia' (NUS Press).
