HE High Commissioner Manpreet Vohra joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1988 and has served as Ambassador of India to Mexico and High Commissioner to Belize from 2019-2021. He was Ambassador to Afghanistan in 2016-2018 and Ambassador to Peru and Bolivia in 2011-2015. Earlier he was Deputy High Commissioner in Pakistan (2007-2009) and in Nairobi (2005-2007) where he was also India’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nation as Environment Program and UN-Habitat. He has also served in several capacities at Indian diplomatic missions in Hong Kong, China, Mongolia, and the United Kingdom.
At the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi, Mr Vohra served as the: Additional Secretary with responsibilities for consular affairs, passports, and counterterrorism in 2018-2019; Joint Secretary with responsibility for development partnerships in 2015-2016, and; Deputy Secretary for disarmament and international security affairs in 2000-2002.
The High Commissioner began his assignment in Canberra in April 2021. He has a BA in Economics and a Post-Graduate Diploma in International Trade from Panjab University, Chandigarh. He was a Chevening Scholar at Oxford University in 1999-2000 where he obtained a certificate in Diplomatic Studies.
