Since gaining independence in 2008, Kosovo has achieved notable political, economic, and diplomatic progress. Politically, Kosovo has established a democratic framework with regular elections and robust institutions. Efforts to combat corruption and promote transparency have strengthened the rule of law. Economically, Kosovo has seen steady GDP growth, supported by remittances from the Kosovar diaspora, international aid, and increased foreign direct investment.

Diplomatically, Kosovo has made strides in building international relationships and is seeking membership in organisations such as the European Union. Join us for a presentation on Kosovo's progress towards political and economic maturity by the Deputy Foreign Minister of Kosovo, HE Mr Kreshnik Ahmeti, who is visiting Australia and New Zealand in July 2024.

From 5:30pm, complimentary drinks and nibbles will be served. This event will be both in-person and on-line.

    HE Mr Kreshnik Ahmeti

Kreshnik Ahmeti was born on February 15, 1990 in Pristina. He completed his undergraduate studies in economics at the University of Pristina, and postgraduate studies at North Dakota State University, where he obtained a master’s degree in business administration.

In 2010, he joined the LVV political movement, where he coordinated its activities throughout Kosovo. In the first local elections in which LVV participated in 2013, he successfully ran for the position of municipal councilor in the Municipality of Pristina where LVV scored its first electoral victory.

In 2018, Mr Ahmeti's influence within the LVV grew when he was appointed as the coordinator of the movement’s General Secretariat. His role expanded further in 2019 when he was elected as the secretary for foreign relations and a member of the Presidency of LVV. In this capacity, he was responsible for establishing and nurturing relationships with local and international actors. Notably, he led the successful campaign for LVV’s membership in the Progressive Alliance, a global organization of progressive political parties and organisations.

In the Government of 2020, led by Prime Minister Kurti, Mr Ahmeti was appointed Chief of Cabinet of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora. In this role, he managed the Ministry’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic and drove reform efforts within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora.

In April 2021, he was appointed as Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora. In this capacity he covers international organisations and bilateral relations with the countries of Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Asia and Oceania.

In addition to his political activity, Mr Ahmeti has hosted a number of political and cultural programs on Radio Urban FM. He has also been active in Kosovo’s music scene in several rock bands.

He is married to Teuta Hasani Ahmeti, an interior designer by profession, and has a son, Tomor.
